Here are some additional photos related to this work:
Here is the title of the work; you can see the painting just below it.
Here is just a brief workup in charcoal so that I know where I am going to layout the initial blocks of paint. I have no formal training so I do not know if this is the best way of doing it but I find that it works well for my style. The charcoal ends up blending with the paint on the first pass. That might piss some people off but I kind of enjoy the effect.
How unlike me, I used black in this painting. This was the first wash that it did. I put down a heavy mix of black and green to form the general outline of the figure and to create the draping hair.
Here she is with a couple of additional paint washes and some body work done. I remember watching the black paint drip off the bottom of her canvas last night. This wall is becoming a real mess, but I kind of like it.
She is starting to take form but still has a way to go.
But of course, I had my trusty bottle of wine with me on this adventure. On this night I was drinking a bottle of Ravenswood cabernet sovereign. I think it was 2004 if I am not mistaken. I was honestly very good and did not cost a million bucks. It was very welcomed after the day that I had.
Well, what ever do we have here. I am getting good at taking my own photo. I am not exactly sure why I do this. I think that I want some form of record of what I looked like when I made the painting so that I can look back at it down the road when I am an old man (if I have the good fortune to live that long). I look very serious here.
Here she is. She is just about finished at this point. I just need to apply a few final touches and then she is ready to have my name placed upon her. I was happy with how she turned out and it was incredible how much better I had felt after this session of painting.
This is the final painting in the series. Sometimes I like to have different paintings photographed together. This could not be more true when it comes to this painting. I hope that someone will enjoy this work.
Sincerely, Joseph Minton
